Intercontinental Hotel extension

This project comprised the refurbishment of existing suites within the Intercontinental Hotel with partial refurbishment between levels eleven to fourteen and full refurbishment to the whole of level fifteen. Works also comprised new construction of two additional stories, levels seventeen and eighteen. These new floors comprised thirty two new luxury suites and a pool deck on level nineteen. All over the existing roof top service level (Lvl 16) and requiring the existing customer and service Lift and stair cores to be extended to the new levels. Total new construction area amounted to 5,000sqm.

Project Management Services were provided to the appointed Design and Build contractor.

The refurbishment and extension works were carried out in a live environment since the hotel remained operational during the main extension works. Key challenges for the project were access and logistics co-ordination between works packages and with operators. Being in the heart of St Julians, a highly congested area, and with limited accessibility and heavy reliance on craneage to service the project, the main focus of the PM team was the development of clear plans for the execution of the works and then to organise and manage works packages around multiple stakeholders and third parties to successfully deliver this project.
